Purple City are best known as affiliates of the Diplomats, and made their name known in hip-hop circles by gaining headway on the mixtape circuit. The trio, comprising Shiest Bubz "The Emperor", Un Kasa, and Agallah "The Don Bishop," may rep Harlem, but their sound owes a debt to the slowed-down bump of Dirty South rap. The Purple Album boasts their brash underground ethos with narratives of gangsta living spun over fairly standard, though nonetheless thumping, beats. Featuring appearances from Jim Jones, Max B, B.G., and Buckshot, plus production by Agallah, Dame Grease, and D-Dot, this is certainly one of the flyest albums of the year.
